Osaka Marketplace, the first Japanese supermarket in the East Bay, is set to open on Friday, November, 12th. It was founded by a group of Japanese retail veterans along with some high-tech entrepreneurs who are passionate about bringing authentic Japanese shopping experiences to the bay area.
The store will serve fresh seafood, farm to market meats and poultry, restaurant-quality Japanese cuisine, and wide selections of Japanese groceries, sake, beauty products, and home goods. Partnerships with prestigious wholesalers enable Osaka Marketplace to carry exclusive brands from Japan and import seafood directly from Japan’s major fish markets. Umeda food court in the supermarket features Osaka’s popular street foods and desserts such as wagyu bentos, donburi (rice bowl dish), mochi donuts, and more.
Osaka Marketplace is the innovative intersection of convenience and a high-quality shopping experience, reflective of how the pandemic has shaped our lives. It has adopted and implemented technological features to account for the change in customer shopping habits and needs due to the pandemic. Osaka Marketplace has joined hands with FreshQ Inc, an online food order mobile platform provider, to develop a contactless self-checkout app. It will allow customers to do self-checkout by scanning products’ QR codes using their smartphones while shopping, eliminating the need to wait in line for cashiers. The mobile order system is expected to launch in late 2021.
The grand opening ceremony will start at 8:40 a.m, with a Taiko drum show and ribbon-cutting on Friday, November 12th. The store will provide welcome gifts for the first 100 customers for 3 days until November 14th.
